Aqaba is expecting 60,000 tourists to visit this winter, according to a senior official from the region.
The tourists, who are mainly European, will arrive in the port city on board more than 20 cruise ships over the winter season, until April next year, Sharhabeel Madi, the development commissioner for Aqaba, said in an interview with Al Ghad.
“Aqaba will put on a programme of activities for its visitors, encouraging them to stay in the region,” said Madi, adding that he hopes the ‘Golden Triangle’ of Aqaba, Petra and Wadi will help them to linger.
“In cooperation with its tourism partners in the region, Aqaba will host the tourists within the framework of its tourism programme,” Madi noted.
He pointed out that the arrival of large numbers of foreign visitors from different European countries is considered a good start for the current tourist season.
“Today Aqaba is the ideal model for the tourism and investment environment, because of its laws and legislation that guarantee the rights of investors, tourists and visitors,” Madi said.
