Under the Patronage of HRH Princess Dina Mired, the “Partnership for Healthy Cities” event launched in Amman earlier today, August 28, 2018, at the Marriott Hotel.

Attended by Jordanian Minister of Health Mahmoud Sheyyab, Mayor of Amman Yousef Shawarbeh, representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) in Jordan, as well as participants from 35 countries, the event includes a three-day workshop dedicated to the latest developments and achievements of “Partnership for Healthy Cities” and its “Smoke-Free City” initiative.

Proud to see Jordan taking part in “Partnership for Healthy Cities” global network of cities committed to saving lives by preventing non-communicable diseases and injuries, through choosing "create a smoke-free city initiative,” Princess Mired tweeted.

Supported by BloombergDotOrg global network, Jordan is now one of the cities committed to implementing proven interventions for non-communicable diseases and injuries. WHO Jordan has been a key partner in the fight against public smoking. According to its official twitter account, the WHO Representative to Jordan, Dr. Profili, thanked the WHO Global Ambassador for NCDs, Mike Bloomberg, for his efforts in supporting the “Partnership for Healthy Cities” workshop.

Earlier this month, Sheyyab announced that a smoking ban has been enforced in public parks, restaurants, and Great Amman Municipality public offices to comply with the Partnership for Healthy Cities – a partnership that was announced back in May - initiative.

Partnership for Healthy Cities

Partnership for Healthy Cities is a global network of cities committed to reducing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries. The Partnership is led and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Ambassador for NCDs and former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.
