In a speech at the COP 25 Climate Conference held in Madrid, Spain, Minister of Environment, Saleh Kharabsheh said that Jordan has been keen on addressing climate change, as the Kingdom was among the first countries to sign the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Kharabsheh underscored the importance of the Paris Agreement, which includes items about climate justice and responsibility, as well as commitment and continued international cooperation in achieving what benefits all countries.

Jordan, along with other developing countries, faces mounting pressures on its economy, in addition to other regional challenges, Kharabsheh explained.

He said that within a span of a few years, Jordan's population has increased by about 20% due to the influx of refugees escaping regional conflicts, which placed a burden on the country's modest resources and put additional pressure on the infrastructure.
