Jordan could move to a ‘low risk’ status – potentially resulting in a total reopening of the country – if it does not record any new local coronavirus cases for a further two days, according to a government announcement in June.

The Kingdom has already managed to remain coronavirus-free locally for eight days – the only new cases have come from outside the country.

A document released by the government in June outlined moving to a low risk status would occur if no local cases were recorded for 10 consecutive days. It said lowering the risk status would result in the reopening of all sectors – including education, cinemas, summer camps, training centres, museums – and no restrictions on travel.

However, this document has not been readdressed since it was first released last month. The easing of restrictions has not yet been confirmed should a change in status take place.

The document also states public transportation would be fully operational, but this has been the case for several weeks already.

Should the country’s status move to low risk, the number of COVID-19 tests would also be reduced, but contact tracing would remain at the same level of capacity.

Adhering to safety precautions and social distancing would still be required.
