New health and safety measures to be implemented when Jordan’s airports reopen, were announced by the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission on Wednesday.

The guidelines include standard public health procedures, flight operation safety procedures and a tracking model for travellers.

The Ministry of Health has divided countries into three colour-coded categories – yellow green and red – based on their COVID-19 statuses. Category allocation is reviewed every two weeks, Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission Chief Commissioner Haitham Misto said.

The categories are intended to help establish clear procedures for travellers to be able to enter Jordan, such as obtaining a COVID-19 test two days prior to arrival or testing upon arrival, he said.

Thermal scanners will be used to help detect cases at the arrivals and departures terminals.

These health and safety procedures will not prevent the entry of positive coronavirus cases to Jordan, Misto said.

However, protocol has been established to deal with cases to ensure the safety and health of Jordanians.
