Two women have been arrested after their tracking bracelets revealed they had broken home-quarantine rules in Irbid.

One of the women broke her tracking bracelet so she left it at home while she went shopping. It turned off and stopped showing her location, so staff in the Irbid governorate operations room immediately reported her to the security services.

The authorities did not provide information on the second woman, but both were arrested and returned to their homes. They will face charges following the 14-day quarantine period.

The governorate’s head of the Epidemiology Committee, Ali Al-Zetawi, said 70 people are currently undergoing home quarantine.

The bracelets monitor the person’s location through GPS and Bluetooth – allowing them move within a 50-metre radius, he added.
