The Director-General of the Jordanian Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), Nizar Muhaidat, stated Saturday that inspection teams carried out a total of 20,755 inspection visits, which resulted in the closure of 143 food establishments in violation of health requirements and standards approved by the administration, the suspension of 859 establishments from work, and the warning of 13,147 establishments during the first half of this year.

Muhaidat revealed in a press release that during the same time period, the JFDA destroyed large quantities foodstuffs that did not conform to health requirements, estimated at 31,417 liters of liquid foodstuffs and 324,426 tons of solid foods, to ensure that they did not reach citizens.

He indicated that the JFDA dealt with 737 complaints submitted by citizens through their official channels designated for receiving complaints related to food quality and safety.

Muhaidat added that the teams have withdrawn 1,550 samples of food consignments imported to the Kingdom and 1,589 samples of foodstuffs traded in the local markets for the purposes of laboratory testing in the institutions' laboratories and to ensure their quality and suitability for consumption.
