Local factories have produced around 500 million face masks since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Representative of the Leather and Knitting Industries Sector in Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) Ihab Qadri Saturday.

Qadri told Jordan News Agency, Petra, the Kingdom has a surplus of locally manufactured medical surgical masks.

Prior to the pandemic, Jordan used to produce 20,000 masks per day, which later rose to 5.5 million after the spread of COVID-19, which allowed factories to export surplus after covering the local market's needs, he added.

In 2020, the Kingdom's exports of medical masks amounted to nearly 100 million items, worth JD 16 million, delivered to 30 countries around the world, according to Qadri.

Qadri indicated that Saudi Arabia was the largest importer of Jordanian masks, with a value of about JD 10 million, followed by Qatar, the United Kingdom, Iraq, the United States, Egypt, Guatemala, Palestine, Germany and Kuwait.
