The hashtag '#Right_of_Hasaka Girl' (#حق_فتاه_الحسكه) went viral on social networking sites in Jordan and the Arab world, amid strong condemnation of the murder of a 13 to 16-year-old Syrian girl at the hands of members of her family.

The girl was shot dead in the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, while perpetrators documented her murder in a video.

The video shows a group of men killing a minor girl. More than 10 men were shooting bullets at the girl who lay on the dusty ground of an abandoned house.

The girl was fighting for her life, and as she was squirming, one man is heard saying "shoot her in the head and she will die instantly," - which is what happened.

The girl's family decided to kill her in a so-called act of 'honor' after learning of her relationship with a young man from the region. The young man fled to Turkey, with the young girl facing her tragic fate alone, according to local media.

Online activists stated that the girl was killed for refusing to marry her cousin who participated in her murder, and that she tried to escape, but they brought her back and killed her.

The incident dates back to three days ago, when the Center for Research and Protection of Women's Rights in North and East Syria stated that it was confirmed that the incident was true, based on local sources.

The video of the murder was published on social media Thursday.

"Those accused of the crime are the father and the brother, and they are still hidden from view until now," said another activist.

Women's groups and movements in northern and eastern Syria announced their protest and rejection of 'Hasakah girl,' calling for the most severe punishments for the perpetrators, so that others would not dare to do similar actions.

In Jordan, thousands of people showed solidarity with the murdered girl, calling for the swift arrest of the perpetrators and the imposition of the most severe punishments against them.
