The emergence and spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant provided the community a “temporary immunity,” Mohammed Hassan Al-Tarawneh, a pulmonary and respiratory diseases specialist, said Wednesday.

Tarawneh added in statements to Roya, a new coronavirus variant may appear at any moment, despite the improvement of the epidemiological situation.

He ruled out that Jordan will witness an increase in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the current period, indicating that the virus may become one of the seasonal viruses that may appear every six or eight months, or a year.

Tarawneh pointed out that there is a tendency to coexist with the pandemic all over the world.

Jordan recorded two deaths and 334 new coronavirus cases in one week (from May 28 until June 3), bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of the crisis to 1,697,271, according to the weekly COVID-19 statistical report issued by the Ministry of Health every Sunday.
