Belbisi explains reason behind increase in number of COVID cases in Jordan

Adviser to the Cabinet of Ministers for Health Affairs Adel Belbisi said Tuesday that the increase in the number of PCR tests conducted contributed to the rise in COVID-19 cases discovered in Jordan.

He stressed that the coronavirus situation is “under control,” indicating that the percentage of PCR positivity rates this week was lower than the percentage of positive tests in the previous week.

Earlier, Belbisi had confirmed that there will be no return to any COVID-19 restrictions in Jordan.

He added that the Kingdom is witnessing an increase in the number of coronavirus infections compared to the past few weeks. However, he also indicated that the increase in the number of PCR tests conducted this week contributed to the increase in the cases discovered.

Belbisi lastly called on citizens to adhere to wearing face masks in crowded places.

Jordan recorded four deaths and 4,763 new coronavirus cases in one week (from July 16 until July 22), bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of the crisis to 1,709,879, according to the weekly COVID-19 statistical report issued by the Ministry of Health every Sunday. The total death toll reached 14,074.

The number of cases witnessed an increase of around 94 percent in comparison to the 2,455 cases which were recorded last week.

There are 52 patients receiving treatment in hospitals.

There are a total of 3,896 active COVID-19 cases.

A total of 40,380 PCR tests were conducted in one week.

The weekly positive PCR test rate reached 11.8 percent.
