Tuesday, the Director General of the Income and Sales Tax Department, Hossam Abu Ali, confirmed that the department did not impose a tax on social media personalities in particular, and explained that the tax is already within the current law.

Abu Ali said in an exclusive interview with Roya that the department's decision is to educate on how to collect the tax and not to impose taxes on a service activity, adding that the tax in Jordan is imposed constitutionally by law, and can be found in Article 3 of Law No. 34 of 2014.

He explained that the department found it necessary to educate those who fall into this category in regards to the taxes imposed on them.

Over 40 taxpayers of social media personalities visited the department in less than a week, and submitted tax returns, Abu Ali noted.
