Thursday, the Ministry of Health announced that Jordan recorded the first case of monkeypox.

The patient is a man in his thirties who traveled to several European countries and returned to Jordan on Aug. 8.

The ministry issued a statement saying that the citizen experienced the first symptoms on Aug. 25, which were a high temperature, sore throat, muscle pain with enlarged lymph nodes.

Five days later, skin blisters appeared on the face and hands, and on Sept. 7, he visited a doctor who suspected that the case was monkeypox, so he took a skin sample and a blood sample and the result turned out to be positive.

The ministry pointed out that the patient is now in good health and is making a full recovery as he is currently isolated at home. His case and contacts are currently being investigated.

The ministry also affirmed that it will continue to follow up on monkeypox and announce any new cases in all transparency, as the health system is ready to deal with any new cases.

Notably, the disease is transmitted only through close contact with infected people.
