An independent investigation committee found that the murder of Shireen Abu Akleh which occurred on May 11, 2022 was deliberate.

The investigation was jointly conducted by a London-based multidisciplinary research group, called Forensic Architecture, and a Palestinian human rights group called Al-Haq, used unseen footage and construced a 3D photogrammetry of the crime scene.

Shireen Abu Akleh, 51, was killed after being shot by the Israeli Occupation Forces while covering an Israeli Occupation army raid in the occupied West Bank.

The probe concluded, after it examined the precise angle of fire of an Israeli Occupation sniper, that the sniper shot at Abu Akleh for two minutes (six bullets for the first time and seven more after eight seconds) although the sniper was able to clearly tell journalists were present in the area.

The investigation also ruled out the possibility of any confrontations occurring between Israeli Occupation forces and Palestinians in Jenin camp when Abu Akleh was killed.

On Sept. 5, The spokesperson for the Israeli Occupation army, Avichay Adraee, said that the findings and conclusion at the end of the investigation into the assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh revealed that the killer ‘could not be determined with certainty.’

“It is not possible to definitively determine who was behind the killing of Abu Akleh,” he said in a tweet, adding that “although there is a high probability that the journalist was mistakenly killed by the IDF” who mistook her for “Palestinian militants.”

The spokesperson also said that as the investigation came to an end, all data was sent to the Military Public Prosecution to be examined and after a thorough examination was conducted, it was found that “according to the circumstances of the incident, no suspicion of a criminal offense was found that would justify opening a criminal investigation with the Military Police.”
