An Egyptian university professor was arrested after she beat her son and tortured him using fire, according to reports made by Al Arabiya.

The child, 10, was found with scars of torture all over his body and it was revealed that his mother, who works as a teaching assistant at a university, did so to force her son to beg in the streets of Dakahlia Governorate after he had initially refused to do so.

The boy told the police that his mother beat him harshly and tortured him with fire to force him to wear torn clothes and beg in the streets away from the area where they live, and gave her the proceeds of what he collected from begging daily.

The security services began investigating the circumstances of the incident in order to decide whether to place the child in a home or to leave him with one of his relatives to take care of him.
