The American rapper Kanye West, who has legally changed his name to Ye, has announced his plans to run for US president in 2024.

The announcement came in a video he posted of his campaign logo to social media, alongside the caption Ye 24. Kanye also claimed to have asked Former US President Donald Trump to be his running mate.

His latest claims came in a video posted after he was spotted at Trump's Mar-A-Lago golf club earlier this week.

West claimed in a video that “Trump started basically screaming at me at the table, telling me I'm going to lose. Has that ever worked for anyone in history?”

The launch of West's campaign comes as he faces a number of damaging controversies.

In 2020, West voted for himself in the US presidential election after a campaign with little chance to contest.

The singer and clothes designer seemed to admit that his 2020 race was over, indicating that the matter is over for him following a picture he posted of himself in front of an electoral map, saying "Kanye 2024”.

Kanye West wrote on Twitter Wednesday, "For the first time in my life, I vote for a president of the United States, for someone I really trust ... me."
