Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo said in a post on Instagram that winning the World Cup was “the biggest and most ambitious dream of his career.”

“I fought for it. I fought hard for this dream,” he said, before adding that he played five World Cups alongside great players and with the support of millions of Portuguese, he gave his all.

“I never gave up on that dream,” but “unfortunately, yesterday the dream ended,” Ronaldo said.

“I just want everyone to know that a lot has been said, a lot has been written, a lot has been speculated, but my dedication to Portugal has not changed for a moment.”

He lastly thanked his country Portugal and thanked Qatar for hosting the World Cup.

“The dream was beautiful while it lasted,” the Portuguese football sensation said.

Portugal had bid farewell to the World Cup, after losing to Morocco 1-0 in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Pele, the Brazilian former professional footballer, wrote, “Thanks for making us smile my friend.”

Many other football stars left comments such as Kylian Mbappé, who plays for France and is currently getting ready for their semi-final match against Croatia, as well as Marta, the Brazilian football player, who is often regarded as the greatest female footballer of all time.
