Beijing says Covid restrictions on Chinese nationals should be 'scientific'

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said Covid prevention measures should be 'scientific and appropriate' after a growing number of countries imposed restrictions on visitors from China, which is experiencing a surge in Covid cases.

“China always believes that epidemic prevention measures of all countries should be scientific and appropriate, treat citizens of all countries equally, and should not affect normal personnel exchanges and cooperation,” he said.

He added, “We have also noticed that many countries have said they will not adjust their arrival test measures for travelers from China. We hope all parties will take a science-based approach and work together to ensure safe cross-border travel, maintain the stability of global supply chains, and contribute to global solidarity against the pandemic and the recovery of the world economy.”

“Over the past three years, we have effectively responded to the five waves of global outbreaks, avoided widespread infections with the original virus and the Delta variant which were more virulent, and greatly reduced the number of severe cases and deaths. This helped to win precious time for the development of vaccines and medicines and the preparation of medical resources.”
