The Royal Hashemite Court (RHC) gave Abeer Rasheed and several others affected by last year’s building collapse in Jabal Al-Weibdeh new homes Thursday.

Last September, a four-story residential building collapsed, killing 14 people and wounding many.

Among the victims were Rasheed’s three children Mohammad, Amira, and Malik — who had already lost their father to cancer less than two years before the accident.

Rasheed is also known as “Khansaa of Al-Weibdeh,” after a seventh-century poet who wrote tragic poetry about the deaths of her brothers and sons.

At the time of the accident, His Majesty King Abdullah II returned from abroad to oversee the 84-hour rescue effort.

He also ordered that the RHC provide the families of the victims with all necessities, including housing.

Thursday, RHC chief Yousef Al-Issawi presented deeds for new apartments to five families affected by the building collapse, which His Majesty provided at his own expense.

Issawi said that the new homes are fully furnished with modern appliances, in order to ensure a good, secure and healthy life for the families.

The families appreciated the royal concern for their case, noting that His Majesty had directed the competent authorities to care for all of their needs and ensure that their housing situation was secured.

They considered the move from temporary housing to new permanent homes to be a major step in their lives, which would not be possible without the constant attention of His Majesty, and his eagerness to provide them with a dignified and secure life.

Governor Yasser Al-Adwan and Ministry of Social Development secretary-general Barq al-Damur were also present.
