Thursday, the Tripartite Committee for Labor Affairs decided to fix the minimum wage in Jordan at JD 260 for the years 2023 and 2024.

The value will be reviewed by the committee at the beginning of 2025 to be re-evaluated and recalculated, so that it can potentially be raised.

In a meeting led by the Minister of Labor Youssef Al-Shamali, the committee affirmed its keenness to achieve a balance between improving the workers' quality of life as well as sustaining economic activities across all sectors, in light of the intense regional and global competition.

Members added that the coronavirus pandemic and repercussinos on all sectors and economic activities should be taken into consideration.

They stressed that they are the reason behind the imbalances in the work systems of these sectors, economic activities, and the local labor market.

The meeting looked at the consequences of implementing defense orders related to the pandemic, and the consequent negative effects that defense orders have had on employers and employees.

The committee consisted of representatives of employers, workers and the government.
