A baby born under the rubble of the deadly earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey on Feb. 6, was given a new lease on life after being adopted by her relatives.

Afraa was the sole survivor of her immediate family after her parents and sibling died following the 7.8-magnitude quake two weeks ago.

"The child is everything to me. She is a reminder of her family and she became my whole life and everything to me," said Khalil al-Suwadi, a cousin of Afraa's father, in his Tent in Syria's Jandairis.

He added: "I will stay in Syria. I got many offers to leave the country but I rejected them because her father and mother died in Syria and so we will stay in Syria and she will remain with me until I die."

"When she grows up, we will tell her what happened and will keep nothing from her. But we will wait for her to grow up and become mature before telling her the story."
