Approximately 23,000 demonstrators protested in the Greek capital Athens Wednesday, police said, as anger mounts over the country's worst rail tragedy that killed 57 people last week.

The demonstrations came as Greek civil servants staged a 24-hour walkout, with doctors, teachers and transport workers also going on strike.
