Joelle Maroun, France 24's correspondent in Beirut, was fired for publishing "intolerant messages posted on her personal accounts, which are the antithesis of the values defended by the international channel and are criminally reprehensible," according to a statement issued by the French state-owned international news television network.

The network "will also file a complaint against her for the damage done to the channel’s reputation and to the professionalism of its newsroom," it added.

In regards to the values in question, the network described its values as follows: "Commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism, racism, and discrimination, and its respect for secularism."

This came after an internal investigation was opened into four journalists from its Arabic-speaking editorial staff who were initially suspended pending investigation after sharing content on their personal social media accounts which were allegedly considered "anti-semitic."

The company "issued a reminder" to the remaining three journalists of the "necessity of adhering" to the company’s policy as their posts appeared to be "incompatible with the standards of impartiality set out in FRANCE 24’s code of ethics, particularly regarding the principles governing personal accounts."
