There has been a significant decrease in the local marriage rate, according to Chief Justice Judge Sheikh Abdel-Hafiz Al-Rabta.

During the year 2022, a 15.2 percent decrease has been reported in the number of marriages in Jordan, compared to the number recorded the year before, he added.

According to official local figures, Jordan recorded 63,834 marriage contracts in 2022, which is 11,526 contracts less than those recorded in 2021.

He explained that this decrease came after the coronavirus crisis, saying he believes that the challenging economic situation is a main contributing factor.
