Friday, a total of 120,000 people performed the Eid al-Fitr prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem despite the strict measures taken by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF), according to the Islamic Endowments Department.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the IOF assaulted Palestinian youths, beating them with sticks near the Lions’ Gate, while they were on their way to perform the Eid prayer.

During Ramadan, the mosque witnessed daily incursions by the IOF including attacks on worshipers and continuous restrictions to keep them outside the mosque.

For many Palestinians in Jerusalem and across the occupied Palestinian territory, Ramadan is directly connected to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Al-Aqsa Mosque compound houses both the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa mosque, which is considered the third holiest site in Islam.
