"We must condemn any act of racism, whatever the team, whatever the player," says Barcelona coach Xavi, after racist chants were once again directed at Real Madrid's Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior during a weekend match.

"Unfortunately, there have been acts of racism. It's a shame that this kind of thing is still happening in 2023; it is sad and regrettable."

He continued saying: "This is not linked to a badge; it's about people, and we must condemn any act, like what happened with Vinicius at Mestalla (Valencia's stadium, ed.)."

"I don't know why football is the only sport where insults are accepted."

"I don't think you have to go as far as to say Spain is racist, or that La Liga is racist. But there have been acts of racism and that's what we need to condemn, and we need to educate people. We have to be examples for society, but if you are in an environment where people insult you and call you names, it's very difficult to be an example, not to get angry and not to react, and that's what happened to Vinicius."

"No matter the shirt, Vinicius is a person. He is not a Real Madrid player before being a person. You have to defend any footballer, any person, regardless of the color they wear."
