The White House announced Tuesday that Jill Biden, wife of US President Joe Biden, tested positive for COVID-19.

Her test result came back positive on Monday, while President Biden's test result was negative, according to an official statement.

Jill Biden's office mentioned that she is only experiencing mild symptoms and will be self-isolating at her residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

This is her second time contracting the coronavirus, as she was diagnosed last year as well.

The White House further stated that Joe Biden, 80, whose COVID-19 test yielded a negative result, will continue to undergo regular testing and monitor any potential symptoms.

Recent weeks have witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the United States.
