Professor of Seismology at Jordan University Najib Abu Karaki underscored the significance of the two-day national earthquake drill set to take place in Jordan, simulating a powerful earthquake scenario within the country.

Abu Karaki told Roya that the drill is crucial because it tests preparedness, serving as an experiential exercise to enhance expertise in this field.

It also evaluates the readiness of public and private institutions and the application of plans outlined by the National Center for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM).

Furthermore, Abu Karaki highlighted the importance of follow-up steps, including drills in schools. He pointed out that without such exercises, evacuations during actual events or emergencies like earthquakes would be chaotic.

Abu Karaki explained that our regions are susceptible to such phenomena and earthquakes every 100 to 200 years, debunking myths about the planetary influence on earthquakes.

The national earthquake drill, named "Safety Path 3," commences Monday, spanning two days.

It aims to assess national capabilities in response and rescue operations, ensuring the resilience of vital infrastructure, distributing aid, updating relevant databases, and managing public awareness messages to safeguard daily life before and after earthquakes.

The drill includes evacuation, rescue, and alarm procedures, with security presence in various areas around 10 AM, without disrupting daily life.
