Cuba slams US veto on ending Gaza war at UN as 'anti-democratic'

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez says the US veto on a UN Security Council resolution calling for a "humanitarian pause" in the Israeli Occupation aggression on Gaza is "anti-democratic."

Twelve out of 15 Council members voted in favor of the resolution put forward by Brazil, which also condemned the "heinous terrorist attacks by Hamas."

Bruno Rodriguez, Cuban Foreign Minister, said: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba urgently calls for a ceasefire, demands an end to the warmongering rhetoric, and demands that the United States government not continue to paralyze the Security Council by using its anti-democratic and obsolete veto power to protect the excesses of the Israeli government."

"Cuba strongly condemns the indiscriminate bombardment of the population of Gaza and the destruction of homes, hospitals and civilian infrastructure," he said.

"The US government vetoed yesterday (Wednesday) in that body (UN Security Council) a proposal that merely called for a humanitarian pause in the fighting to allow aid access to Gaza and ensure the protection of civilians," Rodriguez added.
