US forces carried out two air strikes on facilities used by Iran-allied groups in eastern Syria on Sunday evening, according to Statements by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

The strikes were in response to the continued attacks of US soldiers in Iraq and Syria since October 7.

US forces targeted a training facility and a safehouse near the cities of Al-Bukamal and Al-Mayadeen in Syria, respectively.

"President Joe Biden has no higher priority than the safety of US personnel, and he directed today's action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests," the statement read.

At least 40 rocket and drone attacks were carried out against US forces in Syria and Iraq by Iranian-backed groups since October 7 according to the Pentagon.
