'Jordan not dependent on any country for water': Former Water Minister

Former Minister of Water and Irrigation, Hazem Al-Nasser, stated that he is dismayed by anyone who believes Jordan is dependent on any country regarding water issues, as the nation possesses sufficient national resources for the coming years.

He emphasized in an interview with Roya on Friday that extracting deep groundwater in Jordan is more cost-effective and secure than relying on water from the Israeli Occupation. Al-Nasser highlighted its positive impact on the national economy.

Al-Nasser added that previous studies and projects by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation indicate that Jordan has ample water resources for an extended period, and there is no need for the Israeli Occupation's water.

He stressed the utmost priority for national resources, such as deep groundwater and the national carrier, to prevent water matters from being subject to any country.

Regarding Jordan's announcement that it will not sign an energy and water exchange agreement with the Israeli Occupation, Al-Nasser stated that Jordan's refusal to sign the agreement stems from the Israeli Occupation's lack of respect for international law.

He added that their aggression against Gaza has stripped the agreement of its fundamental objectives, such as regional cooperation, building trust, and promoting peace.

He emphasized that the actions of the occupying entity threaten national security, especially concerning water issues, and discontinuing the agreement is a commendable step that considers Jordanian national interests and the interests of both the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples.

Al-Nasser expressed his belief that Jordan has not thoroughly examined the strategic, national, and financial dimensions of this agreement.
