Barcelona has officially severed all ties with Tel Aviv until a cessation of hostilities in Gaza is achieved, and the rights of the Palestinian people are safeguarded.

This decision follows statements by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who indicated that Spain might independently recognize the Palestinian state if the European Union (EU) fails to do so.

During a press conference Friday, Sanchez emphasized that a truce in Gaza is insufficient, underscoring the urgent need for a lasting cessation of hostilities.

The truce came into effect Friday morning, preceded by intense shelling across various areas of the Strip Thursday night.

Sanchez stated, "We must begin working towards the recognition of the two-state solution today, not later."

Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi noted that the two-state solution process has spanned 30 years without significant progress.

He stressed the importance of moving forward with international recognition of a Palestinian state and its inclusion in the United Nations.

In a related context, the Director-General of the World Health Organization reiterated his call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, which has endured the Israeli occupation's aggression for 49 days.
