The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed appreciation to Hamas on Thursday for releasing two Russian captives and affirmed its commitment to work towards the swift release of other Russian citizens held by the movement in Gaza.

The statement conveyed gratitude to the Hamas leadership for responding to urgent calls and mentioned ongoing efforts to secure the release of additional Russian citizens in Gaza.

The release of the two Russian women came in response to President Vladimir Putin's request and they were handed over to the Red Cross in Egypt via the Rafah crossing.

Notably, last week, Hamas released another Russian citizen, Ron Krivoy, outside the framework of the truce.

The Russian Foreign Ministry did not specify the current number of Russians still detained in Gaza.

A meeting between a Hamas delegation and officials from the Russian Foreign Ministry took place on Oct. 27.
