An earthquake with a magnitude of six struck off the coast of central Japan Tuesday, with no warnings issued for potential tsunami waves, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The earthquake occurred off the coasts lining the Sea of Japan, including the region hit by the earthquake on the first day of the current year, causing widespread destruction and resulting in over 200 casualties.

On Jan. 1 of this year, a 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit Japan. The death toll has risen to 202, complicating relief efforts due to snow accumulation. More than 2,000 people remain trapped, many without electricity and in emergency shelters.

Authorities reported that 323 people are still missing after the first earthquake shook buildings, ignited a large fire, and generated tsunami waves exceeding one meter in the central Ishikawa region.
