King receives USAID Administrator, warns against suspending UNRWA funding

His Majesty King Abdullah II, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein, received Samantha Power, the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The meeting covered Jordan’s intensive efforts to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza and ensure its sustainable and uninterrupted flow to mitigate the situation in the Strip, with His Majesty stressing the need for the international community to take immediate action on this.

The humanitarian role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) was also discussed, with His Majesty the King warning of the danger of halting support to the agency and its negative repercussions on Gaza, the West Bank, and Jordan.

The meeting also addressed the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States and ways to expand cooperation in various sectors.

Projects supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Jordan, particularly in the water sector, were discussed, with His Majesty praising US support for development projects in the Kingdom.

In turn, the Administrator of USAID expressed appreciation for Jordan's humanitarian efforts to alleviate the situation in Gaza. She emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation opportunities between Jordan and the United States by building on their strong strategic partnership.

The meeting was attended by His Majesty's Office Director, Dr. Jafar Hassan, and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Touqan.
