US President Joe Biden announced that he will undergo routine medical examinations ahead of the elections scheduled for November, with a focus on his physical fitness and mental capacity to assume the responsibilities of the presidency for a second term.

The White House stated that a summary of the examination results at the Walter Reed military hospital near Washington will be released later on Wednesday.

This will be followed by a detailed assessment of the health of the oldest president in US history, according to reports from AFP.

Biden, expected to face Donald Trump (77 years old) in November's elections, traveled by helicopter to the medical center frequently visited by American presidents.

"I'm heading to Walter Reed for my check-up," he told reporters as he left the White House.

Biden's routine medical check-up comes amid increasing concerns among voters about the president's age, as he will be 86 years old at the end of his second term.
