British maritime security firm "Ambrey" reported today, Wednesday, an "explosion" that took place near a cargo ship flying the flag of Barbados, owned by an American company, approximately 57 nautical miles southwest of the port of Aden in Yemen.

"Ambrey" clarified that "a nearby ship reported an explosion near the cargo vessel owned by an American company flying the flag of Barbados," and warned other merchant ships to stay away from the area.

Prior to this, "Ambrey" indicated that the ship changed its course after encountering interference from an alleged vessel carrying individuals claiming to be from the Yemeni navy of the Houthi forces.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), affiliated with the British navy, reported an "attack" southwest of the port of Aden, without providing further details.

No party has claimed responsibility for the incident so far, but it comes in the context of escalating attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden region carried out by the Yemen’s Houthis in response to the Israeli Occupation’s aggression against the Gaza Strip.
