James Elder, a Global Spokesperson for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), while addressing the United Nations from the southern border city of Rafah, said that “sleeping at night in Gaza is like lying in a coffin.”

“When you have bombardments there at three o’clock in the morning and the entire building shakes and you’re in bed, and honestly, it feels like you’re lying in a coffin…Just waiting.”

He added that while UNICEF sat with adolescents, several of them said there were so desperate, “so desperate for this nightmare to end, that they hoped to be killed.”

“The unspeakable is regularly said in Gaza,” Elder said, while pleading for more humanitarian aid to enter the famine-ridden Strip.

He also emphasized the necessity of implementing the United Nations Security Council ceasefire resolution, including in the city of Rafah in southern Gaza.
