Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh announced the Eid al-Fitr holiday dates through an official statement on March 17.

As per the announcement, Eid al-Fitr will commence on Tuesday morning, April 9, 2024, and continue until Friday evening, April 12, 2024.

The directive mandates the suspension of work for all ministries, official departments, public institutions, public universities, municipalities, joint services councils, the Greater Amman Municipality, and government-owned companies during this period. However, ministries and official departments with essential operations will continue functioning.

April 9 marks the 29th day of the holy month of Ramadan. Dr. Ammar Al-Sakkji, President of the Jordanian Astronomical Society, noted the possibility of sighting the Shawwal crescent on this day.

Al-Sakkji explained that astronomical calculations suggest the Shawwal crescent could be visible on the western horizon of Jordan on the evening of April 9. However, sighting on the evening of April 8 is deemed impossible due to the crescent being below the horizon after sunset, aligning with astronomical standards.
