A fire erupted in a 16-story building located in Istanbul's Besiktas district, resulting in the death of at least 27 individuals and injuring 13 others, with seven reported in serious condition, according to the Anadolu news agency.

The fire, suspected to have been sparked by renovation activities, originated on the ground floor of the building.

Emergency response teams, including firefighters, medical personnel, and law enforcement, swiftly responded to the scene. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, while the Istanbul governorate initiated an investigation into the incident.

Authorities have already detained five individuals, including the supervisor responsible for the renovation work.
