Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrzej Szejna, on Wednesday said he had summoned the “Israeli” ambassador for talks over the death of a Polish aid worker killed in an “Israeli” strike in the Gaza Strip.

“I want to talk to the ambassador about the new situation in Polish-Israeli relations and about the moral, political and financial responsibility for the event that recently took place in the Gaza Strip,” Szejna told the Polish state news agency PAP - cited by AFP.

This comes after the death of seven aid workers from the charity organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) in an “Israeli” airstrike that targeted their vehicle on Monday.

Szejna said earlier that “Israel” should "compensate" the families of the killed aid workers.

"The authorities should think about who should be held criminally responsible for pressing a certain button and how to compensate the families of the victims -- even if it's impossible to do so with money," he told Radio Zet.

Several Western powers have condemned the strike, in addition to calling for urgent and thorough investigations into the incident.

The UK has summoned the “Israeli” ambassador to deliver the country’s “unequivocal condemnation” of the killing of three British and four other staff of the “World Central Kitchen” charity organization in the missile strike in Gaza.

The United States has urgently called for an investigation into the airstrike.

“Israel should do more to protect innocent civilian lives,” said the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a joint press conference with his French counterpart in Paris, and called for a “swift, impartial investigation to understand exactly what happened” with the deadly strike.
