Indonesia experienced a series of volcanic eruptions on Wednesday, leading authorities to elevate the alert status to its highest level.

The eruptions, originating from Mount Ruang volcano in North Sulawesi province, began on Tuesday evening and recurred four times the following day, as confirmed by local volcanology agencies.

In response to the heightened volcanic activity, authorities upgraded the alert level for Mount Ruang from level three to four, the highest level within the established classification system.

Although no casualties were reported, over 800 individuals from adjacent villages were evacuated as volcanic ash billowed more than a mile (1.6 kilometers) into the sky.
