Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned that the planned “Israeli” attack on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip “would be the biggest disaster in the history of the Palestinian people.”

Abbas said that the United States is the only country capable of stopping the looming “Israeli” invasion of the city that houses at least 1.5 million displaced Palestinians.

"We appeal to the United States of America to ask Israel to stop the Rafah operation because America is the only country capable of preventing Israel from committing this crime," Abbas said at a global economic summit in the Saudi capital.

In his statements, Abbas emphasized that the Israeli Occupation has already devastated three quarters of Gaza, leaving the Strip in dire conditions.

He stressed the importance of a political solution that would unite Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem into an independent Palestinian state, while expressing concerns that “Israel” might target the West Bank after Gaza to also displace its residents.

Abbas urged the international community to recognize Palestine as a full member of the United Nations and also called upon European countries to recognize it in the same manner as “Israel”.
