The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has decided to limit and decrease the number of admissions in Human Medicine and dentistry programs in Jordan’s public universities as part of its “gradual implementation” to reduce admission for the 2023-2028 academic years.

A statement from the council affirmed that these decisions come within the framework of the council's commitment to regulating the “quality of outputs” in the Jordanian higher education sector, especially in these vital disciplines.

This also includes preserving the distinguished reputation of Jordanian universities in this field by adhering to the universities' capacity and the necessity to reduce the current surplus in these capacities - according to the statement.

The council emphasized the need to reduce the number of graduates in these majors to limit any fears of unemployment rising among the graduates of these disciplines.

1000 students will be admitted in Human Medicine programs across all Jordanian public universities for the current academic year 2023-2024, in addition to 300 students in dentistry, distributed with 100 students each in the University of Jordan, Jordan University of Science and Technology, and the Hashemite University.

The statement indicated that for the academic year 2024-2025, the council decided to admit only 800 students in Human Medicine programs in all Jordanian public universities, with a 20 percent reduction in admissions for Dentistry going forward.

As for the academic year 2025-2026 and beyond, only 640 students in the Human Medicine program will be admitted in all Jordanian public universities. Additionally, there will be a 20 percent reduction in admissions for Dentistry for the 2025-2026 academic year.
