Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh stated that the recent attack on Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, home to around one and a half million displaced people from across the region, is a catastrophe by any measure.

Khasawneh emphasized that the events of October 7 are a direct consequence of 70 years of occupation and the refusal to acknowledge Palestinian rights, fulfill the aspirations of the Palestinian people, and establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Speaking at a dialogue session at the Davos Forum in Riyadh, Khasawneh described the situation in Gaza as a war crime, stressing that the destruction caused by the war, which has targeted infrastructure and public facilities, amounts to USD 18.7 billion.

He emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Khasawneh also highlighted the impact of regional events on the Jordanian economy, noting a decrease in revenues due to increased shipping costs in the Red Sea.

He called for efforts to end the aggression and pursue a "political solution that ensures security for both Palestinians and Israelis, while empowering the Palestinian Authority to address the needs and aspirations of the Palestinian people."
