King Abdullah II Tuesday emphasized the importance of the garment sector in employment, economic growth, and increasing exports during a meeting with sector representative.

The meeting was held at Al Husseiniya Palace to review progress in developing the garment sector in line with the Economic Modernization Vision, and was attended by Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh and the Director of the King's Office Jaafar Hassan.

The meeting revolved around discussions on enhancing vocational education to supply the garment sector with qualified labor and adopting training curricula to build the capacities of workers in the industrial sector.

The garment sector's contribution to the GDP was 756 million dinars. Garment products constituted 20 percent of industrial exports, with the sector's annual exports valued at 1.4 billion dinars, emplying 89,000 workers, 31 percent of whom were Jordanians.
