Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Wednesday that the country will open an embassy in Ramallah in the West Bank.

This announcement came on the same day that Ireland, Norway, and Spain recognized the State of Palestine, after over seven months of “Israel’s” brutal war on the Gaza Strip.

Petro has been a strong and vocal critic of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. On May 1, 2024, Colombia severed its relations with Israel after Colombian President Petro described Netanyahu as a "perpetrator of genocide." The embassy was later closed on May 3.

Additionally, Petro called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu earlier this month.
