The “Israeli” foreign ministry said today that it informed the Spanish consulate in Jerusalem to stop offering services to Palestinians starting from June 1.

The decision comes in retaliation for Madrid officially recognizing the Palestinian state.

The Spanish consulate in Jerusalem is "authorized to provide consular services to residents of the consular district of Jerusalem only, and is not authorized to provide services or perform consular activity vis-a-vis residents of the Palestinian Authority” – the Ministry said in a statement, cited by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

“I have decided to sever the connection between the Spanish mission to Israel and the Palestinians, and to prohibit the Spanish consulate in Jerusalem from providing services to Palestinians from the West Bank,” the “Israeli” Foreign Minister Israel Katz said in a statement earlier on May 24.

In response to the Spanish Deputy Prime Minister saying that “Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea,” Katz said on his “X” account that “this ignorant hate-filled person wants to truly understand what radical Islam wants, she should learn about the 700 years of Islamic rule in Al-Andalus — modern-day Spain.”
