A report by the British newspaper, The Times, highlights an unprecedented event in the modern history of Saudi Arabia: the opening of the Kingdom's first nightclub.

The nightclub, called "Beast House," is located in the JAX District in Diriyah, Riyadh. It is part of the projects of "MDLBeast," a company supported by the sovereign wealth fund chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The creative director of "MDLBeast," Ahmed Al-Amari, told the newspaper, "We are building happiness and the economy for us, creating joy and entertainment for us."

The newspaper states that the place looks much like any nightclub in the world, except for the presence of guards patrolling the building in search of any unwanted behavior, which includes adding alcohol to the cocktails served at the bar.

Although alcohol remains prohibited in the kingdom, the newspaper noted that it is regularly smuggled into parties, amid ongoing rumors that authorities may soon allow it in tourist resorts.

Although parties were illegal for years, this did not stop young Saudis from holding them in private residences. However, there was always a chance that the night could end with a police raid or an intervention by the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, which used to patrol the cities.

Today, the roles have reversed. The Committee for the Promotion of Virtue has been phased out following the Saudi Vision 2030 plan announced by the Crown Prince to reform the economy and ease the strict restrictions that defined public life.

Cinemas, concerts, and now nightclubs are gradually appearing in Saudi Arabia.
