Hebrew media reported that an Egyptian soldier was killed and several others were injured in an exchange of gunfire with “Israeli” forces at the Rafah Border Crossing – per Yedioth Ahronoth.

It added that there were no casualties among the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF).

The Military Spokesperson for The Egyptian Armed Forces said that the “gunfire incident” resulted in the martyrdom of one the security personnel tasked with security duties at the border crossing - with no mention of the "Israeli" forces.

It added that they are opening an investigation regarding the incident.

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) confirmed that they are in contact with Egypt following what it described as “a shooting incident”.

“A few hours ago there was a shooting incident on the Egyptian border, the [incident] is under investigation, dialogue is taking place with the Egyptian side,” the IOF said in a statement.

Earlier, Hebrew channel 14 reported that Egyptian soldiers opened fire on “Israeli” soldiers inside the Rafah Border Crossing, with no injuries being reported at that time.

It added that the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) forces responded to the gunfire by firing warning shots.

The Israeli Military Censor, a unit in the IOF Directorate of Military Intelligence, has barred Hebrew media outlets from dealing with this story, as it comes at the peak of tension between “Israel” and Egypt and may have significant political repercussions.
